May 21, 2014

With June just around the corner, Montreal is beginning to look like the beautiful city we all love. June is one of the best months for a weekend getaway in Montreal because you get to beat the summer crowds and still take in the mesmerizing beauty of Canada’s second largest city. The trees are filling out with leaves, flowers popping up everywhere, and best of all; cafe and pub terasses are appearing daily, freshly swept and topped with their shady umbrellas. Yes, you can almost feel the summertime! So why not plan a quick weekend jaunt to this inviting worldwide destination? Read our quick weekend-getaway-guide for Montreal to find out how:

How to Get Here

Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport is one of Canada’s best. With international and domestic flights, you can easily come and go without delay. There are many shuttles from the airport to locations around the city, taxi cabs, buses and car rentals...you’ll have no trouble getting around!

How to Get Around the City

Be sure to have a current map of Montreal handy. It’s also worth checking the Transportation Quebec website daily for updates on road conditions, closures and the traffic reports if you plan on driving. There will be delays on some routes due to construction, and if you plan on using any of the three bridges to the south shore, be sure to time it well! Montreal can also be accessed using the Metro system, public buses and Bixi bike service. Take a look at their websites before-hand to find out if you can take advantage of these services.

Where to Stay in Montreal

The secret to a quick and cost-friendly weekend getaway is to not blow your whole budget on a hotel! Which is easy to do when you want to stay downtown or nearby. But, there are some great budget hotels close to the downtown area you can stay at that are very reasonably priced and still neat and tidy. If you want to cut costs more, book a room with a kitchenette so you can prepare at least one meal a day in your room. You’d be surprised how much money you can save!

Ready to Shop?

June is the beginning of sidewalk-sale season! Walk around just about any neighbourhood: throughout Old Montreal, the Old Port and The Village; you’ll be sure to find some amazing deals on hot items.

Places to Explore

Once you arrive, you’ll find out how easy it is to discover the culture, history and ambiance of this funky city. We suggest getting your home-base set up first and after, start out in Old Montreal. From there you can wander as you please to other areas of the city or to specific attractions.

Don’t Forget the Food, Food, FOOD!

Try breakfast at one of Old Montreal’s enchanting bistros. How about lunch in Chinatown? Or the ever-famous Schwartz’s Deli on St. Laurent Boulevard? Coffee...pretty well anywhere you travel you’ll find some delicious patisseries that serve up stellar coffee. Thirsty for a beer? Take in a glass or two on a pub terrasse in downtown Montreal. Wherever you find yourself, you’ll find plenty of great food and lots of fun!

And when you’re finished for the night, heading back to your room will be a breeze if you book a budget hotel nearby! Take a look at our rooms and suites, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
