Fun February in Montreal

If you’ve just arrived in Montreal you’ve probably noticed its winter! Not to worry, winter is one of the things Montreal does best. From winter festivals to fun cold-weather activities, there are all kinds of things to check out on your extended stay in Montreal. Be sure to have warm clothing and footwear, or you won’t be able to enjoy these!

 

Igloofest

Takes place January 16th to February 8th, 2015 in Montreal’s Old Port, which is very easy to access from many downtown Montreal hotel suites. Igloofest makes the best of a non-negotiable situation here in Canada–winter. Melding some of the best electronic dance music with winter’s icy flair, you’ll find a strange and beautiful atmosphere in which to defy winter’s frigid nature. An igloo city, “Iglooswag” fashion, projections and awesome décor are all on the menu. Admission starts at 7pm until 12pm and is open to anyone over the age of 18.

L’Hivernale

Every weekend during the 2015 winter season Montreal’s Olympic Park hosts one of the most festive and fun outdoor spaces in the city. Located in the Winter Village, L’Hivernale has an outdoor bar, free skating rink (bring your own skates), culinary lab, Bavarian curling and themed evenings complete with live performances. What more could winter offer?  Open every weekend (Fridays & Saturdays from 4pm to 11pm) from January 2nd to March 8th 2015.

The Island of Toys

Visiting with young children? Don’t miss this exhibition all about toys. For kids between the ages of 3 and 9 adventures await! It’s also the perfect opportunity to revisit some of your favorite pastime playthings if you’re older than nine years. Come along as visitors search for a crew of shipwrecked monkeys on an island of lost toys! Hosted by the McCord Museum at 690 Sherbrooke St. West, this is a perfect outing if you’re staying in a Montreal hotel suite downtown. Exhibit runs until April 6th 2015.

Fête des Neiges de Montréal

Wintry fun from January 17th to February 8th 2015. Located in Parc Jean Drapeau, this fun weekend family event is packed with outdoor activities. Some are free, others have a small cost. Tubing, sledding, horse-drawn carriage rides, dog sledding, zip lines, giant foosball, skating, Ferris wheel, curling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and much more! Be sure to check out some of the great performances as well, you’ll have a blast in true Canadian style.

Je t'aime en Chocolate

A chocolate lover’s paradise, this tantalizing festival takes place February 6th to 8th 2015 in the Bonsecours Market. You’ll discover some of Quebec’s finest chocolatiers, artisans, and gourmet designers just in time for Valentines Day! Step out of the cold and into a variety of chocolaty lectures, cocktails, demos and the chocolate fashion show.

Montréal en Lumiere

As one of the largest winter festivals worldwide, this one is not to be missed. Held from February 19th to March 1st 2015 in the Quartier des spectacles in downtown Montreal. From performing arts to fun family activities, you’ll find a wide range of things to enjoy and take in. Don’t miss the gastronomy, music & performances, light shows, kids activities and the all-night Nuit Blanche party.
