2015 Tourism Industry Explodes In Montreal

September 04, 2015

Heartbeat of Montreal

There are many industries that flourish here, but tourism is a major contributor to the local economy that accounts for an ever-increasing amount of money. There are many factors that come into play when we look at tourism, including local and global economies fluctuating and other world events. With the Canadian dollar being on the low side, many countries can visit us economically, which in turn boosts tourism travel. 2015 has seen an increase in cross-border shopping on our side, as well as more international visitors taking advantage of the savings. There are a few other noteworthy events contributing to the excellent tourism season Montreal is experiencing:

New Tourist Zones

Earlier in the spring of 2015, the Quebec government relaxed local regulations to allow businesses to stay open in certain areas of Montreal for 24 hours a day. That means you really can shop till you drop, and then some.

Upward Trend Continues Through 2015

Tourism in Montreal has seen it’s best spring in a long time this year. While 2013 and 2014 were also decent years for tourism, 2015 has seen even higher rates. While many factors contribute to this, the low Canadian dollar is a major influencer for increasing numbers of travelers and shoppers visiting the city. In fact, visitors from south of the border were up by 80% compared to the same time in 2014. Hotel stays were up almost 50% and air travel was up 40%. So be sure to book your affordable Montreal hotels in advance!

A Great Place to do Business

Montreal is a great place to do business. We have many excellent places to hold professional conferences and conventions, as well as extended stay suites that provide affordable accommodation for attendees. Pair that with incredible entertainment and culture and you’ll find doing business in Montreal quite pleasant. In fact, business tourism is one of Montreal’s top contributors to the tourism sector, hosting over 300 conferences per year. With many large corporations looking for an international yet affordable location to set up a business or hold events, Montreal stands out as a top choice.

Montreal/Beijing Link

Air China, in partnership with Air Canada, announced earlier this spring that starting as early as September 2015 they would be offering a three-times per week service between Montreal and Beijing. To make it even better, the actual flights are estimated to take approximately 12 hours and 50 minutes via the polar route; which is shorter than flying out of Toronto or New York. Montreal is expecting to see a boost from this new service both in tourism to the city and air travel traffic. Our hotel suites downtown Montreal are a perfect place to stay on your way out of town or when arriving for an extended stay in Montreal.
